Herbert E. “Sonny” Sweetser

An extremely generous and thoughtful man;

Herbert E. “Sonny” Sweetser, 80, of Pelham passed away peacefully Wednesday afternoon October 10, 2018 at the Sutton Hill Center in North Andover.

He was the beloved husband for 58 years of Elaine G. (Breault) Sweetser whom he married on Thanksgiving Day November 26, 1959.

Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, October 23, 1937, a son of the late Herbert E. Sweetser and the late Jeannette (Cote) (Sweetser) Bloomgren, he attended Tyngsboro Schools and was a graduate of Lowell High School in the Class of 1955.

He served in the U.S. Army Reserves.

Sonny was in the manufacturing business his whole life and was the Owner and Operator, with his sons, of Accurate Metals, Inc. in Lawrence for over 30 years until his retirement. Over the course of his career he was instrumental in helping his employees start their own business and took great pride in their own successes.

In his younger years, Sonny coached several youth teams in the town of Pelham. Although he truly enjoyed working, he also played cribbage with his friends on Tuesday night at the Pelham VFW.

A member of the Pelham Senior Citizens, he also belonged to the Dracut Senior Citizens as well as their bowling league.

Besides his wife Elaine, he is survived by a son Glen P. Sweetser of Pelham; a granddaughter Kaila J. Sweetser of Denver, CO; two sisters Brenda Bloomgren of New Ipswich, NH and Sandra J. Britton of Hudson,NH; a brother Martin Bloomgren of Tyngsboro; two sister-in-laws Jan MacEachern of Pelham and Linda Bloomgrem of Dracut; several nieces, nephews and many dear friends.

He was also the father of the late Gary H. Sweetser, who started Accurate Metals, Inc.

Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Visitation at the PELHAM FUNERAL HOME 11 NASHUA RD. in PELHAM from 9 to 11 A.M. Tuesday morning followed by a Funeral Service in the Funeral Home at 11 o’clock. His Committal Services will follow at the Gibson Cemetery. E-condolences/directions at www.pelhamfuneralhome.com.
