Daughter of Sarah E. White and John H. Wood. 1m to William Eldridge Norton on 17 May 1879 in Douglas Co, KS. Divorced on 06 Jul 1882 in Douglas Co, KS. 2m to William M. Helm on 15 Feb 1883 in Shawnee Co, KS.

This story was told by R. Wayne Watson, and it was told to him either by his mother, Grace Helm Watson, or his grandmother, Julia Wood Helm:

"In the summer of 1863, following William Quantrill's Raid on Lawrence, Kansas, some of Quantrill's men rode through the Wood property southwest of Lawrence. One-year-old Julia and presumably her older sisters were hidden under the porch while the raiders fired their guns, ransacked the house, and killed all of the livestock. Only women and girls were home at the time, as John H. Wood was away serving in the Union army. Given the death toll of men in Lawrence, he might have been killed if he had been home at the time."
