Ida Frances Mitchell Fondren, age 94, went to be with the Lord and loved ones gone before her, on October 20, 2011. She was born in Sprott, Alabama on October 8, 1917, and lived there until February 2001, when she moved to Florida to live with two of her daughters, Elizabeth Fondren Powell in Orange Park , Florida and Martha Fondren Manning in Milton, Florida.
Mrs. Fondren spent her life caring for her husband and children. Her children and grandchildren will always remember the joy she brought to their lives and the countless hours she devoted to nurturing them.
She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of sixty-nine and a half years, Ellis Jackson Fondren, a beloved son, William Ernest Fondren, her parents, Ernest and Beatrice (Morris) Mitchell, three brothers (John, Cecil, and Ernest Lee) and three sisters (Nannie Mitchell, Mary Hughey, and Louise Richey).
She is survived by four children, Robert Ellis Fondren (Betty) of Milton, Florida, Eva Frances Fondren Rinehart (John Allen) of Sprott, Alabama, Elizabeth Beatrice Fondren Powell (John) of Orange Park, Florida, and Martha Rae Fondren Manning of Milton, Florida. She was the adored grandmother of six grandchildren (John Ellis Powell, Thomas Barry Manning, John Allen Rinehart, Jr., William Joseph Manning, Traci Elizabeth Powell Schnoover, and Dana Elizabeth Fondren and eight great-grandchildren (Meghan Ashley Elizabeth Powell, Timothy Evan Manning, Steven Andrew Manning, Marissa Nicole Manning, Hunter Wyatt Manning, David Karl Schnoover, II, Lily-Ann Elizabeth Powell, and Ella Dolan Powell). She is also survived by three sisters, Ethel Lee Richey Holified of Marion, Alabama, Christine Martin (Kenneth) of Denham Springs, Louisiana, and Juanita Rawls of Gallion, Alabama.
Visitation will be Saturday, October 22, 2011 from 12:30 pm to 2:00 pm at Lewis Funeral Home Milton Chapel with services beginning at 2:00 pm, Rev. Jim Waters, officiating. Interment will follow at Serenity Gardens.
Pallbearers: Anthony Fisher, Randy Wyatt, Larry Culpepper, Terry Miller, Tommy Yates, and Stephen Shell.
