Mrs. Annie Louise (Howe) Bellows, 62, wife of Luther C. Bellows, member of Brattleboro's police force, died at 6:15 o'clock last evening at her home at 7 Homestead place. She had been in failing health the past month with bright's disease and for two weeks her condition had been serious. Death came suddenly from embolism. Funeral services will be held at Mitchell's funeral home on Putney road Friday morning at 10 o'clock. Rev. Edwin P. Wood, pastor of All Souls church, will officiate. The body will be taken to Wilmington for burial in Riverview cemetery. Mrs. Bellows was born in Dover, Sept. 9, 1867, a daughter of Edmund Perry Howe and Laura Ann (Worden) Howe. The family moved to West Brattleboro when she was a small child and there she attended the district schools and graduated from Glenwood Classical seminary. She taught school in West Brattleboro and in Vernon. Her marriage to Mr. Bellows of Marlboro took place in Brattleboro Sept. 10, 1890 and they lived here a few years before going to Wilmington where they made their home about 25 years. They returned to Brattleboro three years ago when Mr. Bellows began his work on the night police force. Mrs. Bellows leaves besides her husband, one daughter, Miss L. Louise Bellows, a teacher in Springfield, Mass., and a son, Forrest H. Bellows, who is In government work at Newport, Vt. She also leaves a brother, Frank E. Howe, postmaster in Bennington and publisher of the Bennington Banner: one sister, Mrs. Herbert A. Barker of this town, and a granddaughter, Helen Frances Bellows. She was a member of the Universalist church in Wilmington and an attendant of All Souls church of this town. She was a member of the auxiliary of the Sons of Union Veterans, and formerly belonged to Victory Grange and the W.C.T.U. in Wilmington.
