MARION, Va. Sarah Elizabeth Griffey Barker, age 69, went to her heavenly home on Monday, October 8, 2018. Sarah was born in Saltville, Va. on October 11, 1948, to the late Arch and Lula Wyatt Griffey. Sarah was the youngest out of 11 children. She married the love of her life, Monroe, on August 17, 1965. She enjoyed flowers, gardening, baking, and canning. She always made sure others were taken care of. She loved attending church and her family. She will be missed by those who knew and adored her. She is also preceded in death by her brothers, Archie "Juke" Griffey, William Griffey, George Griffey, Ben Griffey, and Cecil Curtis Griffey; sister, Mary Jane Griffey; and great-granddaughter, Hayley Jade Poston. She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Clayton "Monroe" Barker; son, Cecil Monroe Barker and wife, Alishia; two daughters, Kyra Ward and husband, David and Lora Barker, all of Marion; grandchildren, David Ward and wife, Jennifer, Rural Retreat, Beth Ward Wilson and husband, Philip, Atkins, Brandi Barker and Kevin Poston, Marion, Billy Barker, Marion, Suzanna Barker, and Hunter Barker, both of Marion; great-grandchildren, EmaLee Wilson, Sarah Poston, and Skye Poston; brothers, Henry "Doodle" Griffey and wife, Daisy, Chilhowie, and John Griffey and wife, Judy, Saltville; very special sister, Ruth Griffey Cregger, Groseclose; and several nieces and nephews also survive. The family would like to express a special thanks to Wythe Hospice of SWVA for the care given to Mrs. Barker and the family. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, October 10, 2018, from the Bradley's Funeral Home Chapel in Marion with Pastor Michael Hopkins and Pastor Otis Barker officiating. Entombment will follow in the Rose Lawn Cemetery Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday evening, October 9, 2018, at the funeral home chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Sarah to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
