Donald L. Gaines, 80, of Stockton, was born in Glendale, CA to Verlon and Mildred Gaines. He grew up mostly in Bakersfield, graduating from Bakersfield High in 1955. He married our mom, Anne, in 1957 and they were married for 23 years. He attended USC and completed his studies in Architectural Engineering at Cal Poly SLO in 1959. Don had a long career in Architecture, working mostly in Bakersfield and Stockton, designing many commercial and residential buildings. He retired in 2007 from the City of Stockton. He was a wonderful, loving, supportive and fun dad, grandpa and great-grandpa, and we will miss him dearly.

He leaves behind his three children, daughters Vicki Norman (Chris) and Melanie Gaines of Bakersfield, and son Bill Gaines of Idaho; 5 grandchildren, Brandon McCormick, Shannyn Forgue, Leesa Clapp, Allie Dillow, and Jared Balius; and 10 great-grandchildren. Don also leaves behind his brother Ken Gaines of Linden, and cousin Elaine (George) Work of San Miguel, an aunt, cousins, nephews, nieces and other extended family and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Hodel's restaurant in Bakersfield, 5917 Knudsen Drive, on Tuesday, October 16, at 11:30 am. For full obituary and condolences, please visit: www.deyoungshorelinechapel.com
