Evelyn Gaynelle Hicks, age 92, of Stone Mountain, died October 10, 2018. Born in Atlanta to Larry and Ruth Vaughn, she was a graduate of Murphy High School in 1941. Her favorite pastimes were gardening, cooking, going to church, and listening to gospel music. At the age 16, she married Randolph Hicks and they had 6 children. With 20 years of service, she retired from the Gwinnett County School System and continued to remain active until age 90, when her health began to decline. Evelyn was preceded in death by her loving husband, parents, and sons, G.R. Hicks, and Larry Hicks. Surviving are her sons, Wayne Hicks and his wife, Roselle; Neal Hicks and his wife, Susan, both of Stone Mountain; Ricky Hicks and his wife, Shelby, of Monticello; daughter, Pat Wall of Stone Mountain; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held 2 o’clock, Saturday, August 13, in the chapel of Henry Funeral Home, with Dr. Jim Martin officiating. Interment will follow at Wade Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 12:30 o’clock prior to the service at the funeral home.
