Mr. Johnny James, Jr. affectionately known as J.J. was born on January 5, 1949, to Beatrice Weathersby-James and Johnny James, Sr. who preceded him in death. Johnny was one of four children. 

Johnny was educated in the Durant and Jackson Public School Districts. He also served proudly on the Jackson Police Department. He retired with the rank of sergeant after 32 years.

Johnny united with his teenage sweetheart, Ora Johnson in holy matrimony 50 years ago. During this union, two children were born. He accepted Christ under the leadership of Reverend Dr. Matthew Canada at Pilgrim Rest M.B. Church in Madison, MS, where he served faithfully until his illness.

On June 25, 2018, God called his angel back to Him, and Johnny'smemory and legacy shall forever live on in the hearts.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on June 29, 2018, between the hours of 12-7 p.m. at Peoples Funeral Home, 886 N. Farish Street Jackson, MS. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 30, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at Pilgrims Rest M.B. Church located at 852 Madison Ave. Maidon, MS.

Interment will follow at Natchez Trace Cemetery, Madison, MS 

John 14:1-4 “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God;believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. And you know the way to where I am going.”
