ELIZABETHTON - Joseph Floyd Storie, age 78, of Elizabethton passed away on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at his residence, following an extended illness.

Floyd was born in Elizabethton, Tennessee to the late Harold and Virgie Jones Storie. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Harold Storie, Paul Storie and Kenneth Storie; two sisters, Clarice Storie and Bernice Johnson; and his very special friends, Bob Burleson, Jim Storie, Marlow Tackett, Dr. Harold Mills, Ralph Troutman, C.J. Blackwell and J.L. Blackwell.

Floyd graduated from Cloudland High School and was of the Baptist faith. He loved to farm and play music. Floyd was a very hard worker and worked hard his entire life. Floyd was a beloved father, grandfather, brother and businessman. His love for family, friends and community guided him through his life. He was the owner of Floyd Storie Roofing and stayed involved in numerous community projects with special emphasis in the Crabtree community and surrounding churches. Floyd would feed you, clothe you and above all put a roof over your head. Floyd never wanted credit but instead wanted the glory to go to God. (The Big Man)

Those left to cherish his memory include two sons, Jeffery Storie and Joe Storie, both of Elizabethton; a daughter, Joan Storie, of Elizabethton; three grandchildren, Derrick Storie and wife Nicole and Adam Storie and wife Kayla, both of Elizabethton and T.J. Small, of PA; three great grandchildren, Laura Storie, of NC, and Brayden Storie and Wesley Storie, both of Elizabethton; two sisters, Carolyn Boggs, of Roan Mountain and Fredia McKinney, of Elizabethton; one brother, Jerry Storie and wife Gail, of Unicoi; special nephew, Keith Johnson, of Roan Mountain; two step grandchildren, Anthony Hopkins, of SC and Dionne Hopkins, of Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews, along with a special friend, Janet Denny, of Elizabethton; and the mother of his children, Clara Sue Clawson, of Butler, also survive.

A service to celebrate and honor the life of Joseph Floyd Storie will be conducted at 3:00 PM on Sunday, October 14, 2018 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Rev. Luther Carver, Rev. Ralph Carver, Rev. Bobby Stout, and Rev. Benny Johnson, officiating. Music will be under the direction of the Storie Family and Benny and Sherry Johnson. The family will receive friends from NOON until 3:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Sunday or at the residence at any time.

The graveside service will follow in the Cook Cemetery in the Beech Mountain Community of North Carolina. Active pallbearers will be employees of Floyd Storie Roofing Contractors. Honorary pallbearers will be Rudy Johnson, Ronnie Townson, Lee Birchfield, Tom Ingram, Junior Peters, Roma Peters, Sally Livingston, Audrey Neuamaker, John Huber, Jim Barker, Dale Williams, Faye Woods, Louise Baker, Margaret Whitehead, Randy Whitehead, Cirillo Marcelas, Johnny Range, David Neuamaker, Lonnie Cochran, Jose, Jimbo Honeycutt, R.J. Honeycutt, Mike Mayse, Patsy Blackwell, Jackie Blackwell, Joyce Jenkins, Ted Jenkins, Dr. David Mills, Gail Burleson, Johnny Mills and a host of other friends.

Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers, may make donations to Shriners Hospital for Children, 950 West Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605.

The family would like to thank the doctors and staff of Amedysis Hospice Care and to Dr. Spradling and the staff of the Regional Cancer Center for the love and care shown to Floyd during his illness.
