Loving grand-father of Erin Lotta (Stephen), Martin O'Brien (Katie), Liz O'Brien, Anne Hayward (Dustin Starer), Molly Hayward, Julia Hayward, Alexander Halladay, Peter Halladay, Jane Halladay, Stanley Halladay, and Robert Drysdale III (called Trip). Cherished great-grandfather of Grace Lotta, Jameson Lotta, Victoria Lotta, and Charles O'Brien.
Retired major, PA National Guard. Joe was born at home in Phila. on Jan. 31, 1930, to John J. Byers, Sr., and Mary (Roach). Graduated first in his class from St. Joseph's Preparatory School, and also from Most Blessed Sacrament School. Joe spent virtually all of his 48-year working life with MAB Paint Company, retiring as manager of Industrial Sales. He was active in service projects supporting St. John's Hospice in Philadelphia, as well as Catholic Parents Network and, Dignity & New Ways Ministry (ministries of advocacy and justice for LGBT Catholics).
Funeral Mass on Monday October 1st at 11 A.M. at St. Anastasia Church, 3301 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, PA 19073. The family will receive friends at the church before the Mass, at 9:30 A.M. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Little Brothers of the Good Shepherd, Sheepfold of the Good Shepherd Orphanage, Delmas 48, Rue Merisier et Ortolan 10, Port-au-Prince, P.O. Box 2354, Haiti, W.I.
