She married July 6, 1867, in Bourbon, Marshall County, Indiana, to George W. Tharp.

Death came to the relief of Mrs. George Tharp, last monday evening after several weeks of sickness due to cancer. The funeral services are this afternoon at Fairview. The following obituary will be read during the services which are to be conducted by Rev. H.E. Swihart and Rev. McKain of the U.B. Circuit and the Bourbon church.
Mary E. Tharp, daughter of John S. and Margaret Hover was born in Kosciusko County, Indiana, July 1, 1851 and went to her crowning Monday evening, January 5th at her home in Bourbon, Indiana, being aged 79 years, 6 months and 4 days. She was one of a family of 11 children, all of whom preceeded her in death with the exception of one sister, Mrs. Lydia Kleindenst of Warsaw, Indiana. When but a small girl she removed with her parents to Marshall County locating on a farm north of Bourbon, and has since lived in Bourbon Township. She was married to George W. Tharp of Bourbon on June 6th, 1867, who preceded her to the spirit realm, having been called to his eternal home in 1922. To this union were born five children, of whom four survive, as follows: E. N. Tharp of Argos; Mrs. Jacob Montague, Mrs. Elzie Faulkner and Marvin Tharp of Bourbon. One daughter, Mrs. Samuel Miller, having died in 1924.
Mrs. Tharp was converted at an early age and has never faltered nor weakened in her profession of the Christ-life. She has the distinction of having been one of the charter members of Fairview Church, she and her husband having donated the land upon which the church property now stands. She held membership continuously in this church until her death, and has been one of its most loyal and consistent adherents. Having grown up in an early day her education was necessarily limited, yet she was grounded to a remarkable degree in the Word of God, and always took a keen interest in the affairs of the Church and Kingdom.
Besides the foregoing she is survived by 26 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren, also many other relatives and friends. Her passing also severs the long and intimate relation that has existed between her and a sister-in-law. Mrs. John Tharp, who assisted so affectionately in her last sickness.
