WISE, Va. Evelyn Petrey Baker, 94, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, October 8, 2018, at the NHC HealthCare in Bristol, Va. She was a longtime member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Wise, former substitute school teacher in Wise County and the City of Norton, former owner and operator of Baker Funeral Home, Inc., a member of the United Methodist Women, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, founding member of the Wise Garden Club, a member of the Wise Study Club and was an avid bowler and golfer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas H. Baker; daughter, Sheila Baker Riner; her parents, William Artz and Vinnie Tucker Petrey; sister, Mary Virginia Petrey Wells; and three brothers, Eugene Petrey, Charles Petrey, and William Petrey. Surviving are two daughters, Rosemary Jessee and husband, Danny, of Bristol, Va., and Andrea Baker-Smith and husband, David, of Coeburn; five grandchildren, Charles Douglas Riner, Kevin Riner, Tyler Riner and wife, Nicoal, Tiffany Jessee Blix and husband, Darin, and Brittany Jessee Kiser and husband, J.W.; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, James Edward Petrey and wife, Jean, of Lynchburg, Va.; several nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services for Evelyn Petrey Baker will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, October 11, 2018, at the Trinity United Methodist Church, 110 W Main St, Wise, VA 24293, with Pastor William J. Carter and Pastor Phillip Bates officiating. Family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until time of services at 7 p.m. Thursday, October 11, 2018, at the church. Committal services and entombment will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, October 12, 2018, at the Temple Hill Memorial Park Mausoleum in Castlewood, Va.
