• UPDATED OCT 9, 2018 AT 3:55 PM Johnson City Press
JOHNSON CITY - Edna “Faye” Greene, died peacefully October 7, 2018 at her home in Johnson City, Tennessee at the age of 90. She was a native of Chestnut Hill.

Faye is survived by her children Steve Greene (Maryville), Jere Baker (Coeburn) Sandra Harbison (Knoxville), and Ronda Sager (Nashville), sisters Marie Goforth and Christine Bettis. She is preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Edwin Lee Greene Sr., son Edwin Lee Greene Jr., and parents Alma Baxter Thornton and Palmer Thornton of Chestnut Hill, as well as siblings Robert, Baxter, Judson, and Nancy. She leaves behind to cherish her memory a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A 1948 graduate of the St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Knoxville, Faye was a member of the US Cadet Nurse Corps. She worked at the Jefferson County Health Department where she met her husband and later moved to Johnson City where she served as a registered nurse on the psychiatric ward at Mountain Home Veterans Administration for several decades.

Always ready for an adventure, Faye was independent and fearless; she and Ed took flying lessons in the 80’s, and she conquered parasailing at age 86. She enjoyed several trips to Europe and trying new types of cuisine. While an accomplished seamstress, it was gardening and cooking that brought her great joy; many people have been the lucky recipients of the strange concoctions she canned.

Faye dearly loved her church family and her neighbors. The family would like to thank the Crowders and the Johnsons for their friendship and support.

Visitation is scheduled for Saturday, October 13 at noon at Appalachian Funeral Home in Johnson City with service to follow at 2. Graveside services will immediately follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park in Elizabethton.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Benevolence Fund at Southwestern Baptist Church, 1112 Cherokee Road, Johnson City, TN 37604.

Memories and condolences may be shared at www.appfh.net.
