Matthew was born on July 24, 1981 to Richard Simmons Jr. and Rexann Simmons of Gridley, California. He was a longtime resident of Gridley, and a graduate of the class of 2000. He married Rebecca Morrison of Gridley. Matthew took pride in his work for Utility Tree Service as a top foreman for over 10 years, and previously worked for the City of Davis for 7 years. He was a member of IBEW local 1245. He loved to laugh and make a difference in lives around him. He would do anything for a friend in need. An avid sportsman, he loved kayak fishing, hunting, camping, and wakeboarding with family and friends. Ever the competitor, he caught a 30lb salmon to retain bragging rights.

A funeral service will be held Friday, October 12, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Gridley Biggs Cemetery, in the gazebo, officiated by Pastor Bill Hammond of Lighthouse Tabernacle. A celebration of life will be held at the home of Dennis and Pam Morrison, following the service. Arrangements entrusted to Gridley-Block Funeral Chapel.
