Dave is survived by the love of his life, Susan (Howard) Hughey. They were married on May 11, 1963 at St. Patrick Catholic Church and enjoyed 55 wonderful years of fun and companionship. He is also survived by his children, Karin Vetor (Clifford) of Valparaiso and Kristin Coburn (Steven) of Chesterton, his grandchildren Matthew Vetor and Kassondra Schavey (Casey) and great grandson Carter Schavey.
He is also survived by his sister, Carol Pomeroy and nieces Rhonda Santana and Jami Barber (Eric) and their children.
He was also preceded in death by his daughter Heather Lee Hughey.
Snoopy his puppy took great care of him during his illness. Dave was a 3-sport athlete at Sharon High School and had 20 scholarships for football of which he chose Louisiana State University. He retired from Midwest Steel after 35 years as an air conditioning and heating specialist. He spent 6 years in the Army National Guard serving his country.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at 10 a.m. at White-Love Funeral Home, 525 S. 2nd St., Chesterton, IN. Burial will follow at Chesterton Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, October 8, 2018 from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to VNA Hospice, 2404 Valparaiso St., Valparaiso, IN 46383.
