Evelyn Elizabeth Lucas Stegel, 87, of Oak Hill, WV entered into Heaven in the open arms of Jesus on June 7, 2008 while at home with her loving family by her side. Born July 23, 1920 at Oak Hill, WV she was the daughter of the late Sam and Bertha Hornsby Lucas.

Evelyn dedicated her life to the Lord and her family. She was a member of the Wesleyan Methodist Church for more than 60 years. As a pastor's wife, she provided several services to the church including teaching Sunday school, sharing her artistic talent and visiting and caring for the sick members of the church.

As a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother, she was an inspiration to all who knew her. The Lord could always be felt in her presence. No words, poems or quotes can measure the loss that the family and friends now feel. May we find comfort in the words of her favorite Psalm, the very familiar 23rd, "The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.". Our beloved mother was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Rev. Louie Stegel; their son, Roger; brothers, Howard, Ralph and Raymond Lucas; daughter-in-law, Claudia Stegel and great grandson, Darrell E. "Boo" Stegel III.

Survivors include three sons, Darrell Eugene Stegel and wife, Dixie of Beckley, Gary Stegel and wife, Jeanie of Oak Hill and Damon Stegel of Chattanooga, TN and three daughters, Anna James and husband, Orville of Oak Hill, Brenda Nester and husband, Kenneth of Teays Valley and Connie Ferguson of Oak Hill. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, Danny,Jane, Eddie, Frank, Terra, Darrell "Butch", Wayne, Cindy, Johnny, Lisa, Jamie, Brad, Sam and Barkley as well as 26 great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren. Services will be on Friday, June 13, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill with Rev. John Harper officiating. Music will be provided by the Harper family.
