Retired US Navy CDR William (Bill) Guy Eaton, Sr., died January 25, 2011, in Virginia Beach, VA.

Born in Charleston, SC on March 26, 1922, to Edna S. Smith and William G. Eaton, he graduated from the Hamburg, NY, public school system in June 1940 and entered the US Navy where he won an appointment to the US Naval Academy. He graduated from the Naval Academy in June 1944 with the class of 1945. He married the former Sally Ann Crutcher in the Naval Academy chapel on July 12, 1945. Both Bill and Sally were raised in Navy families.

After a number of surface ship assignments he entered flight training and received his wings in September 1949 at Pensacola, FL. Bill retired from the Navy in 1965, after which he worked for Northrop Corporation, where he proudly contributed to the first manned lunar landing. He then embarked on a twenty-five year career teaching mathematics and science in the Norfolk and Virginia Beach public school systems and at Tidewater Community College.

Bill was an active person most of his life who enjoyed sports and interacting with people. He was a straight forward individual who stood up for what he believed in as those who knew him as a Naval aviator, scientist, teacher, and family man can attest. He will be remembered for his love of family, duty to country and faith in God.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Sally C. Eaton; his daughter, Isabel Pollard, and husband, Ken, of Virginia Beach, VA; two sons, William and wife, Ann, of Virginia Beach, VA and Robert and wife, Marty Daly, of Santa Fe, NM; three grandchildren, Michele Mohlere Arosemena and husband Carlos, Virginia Eaton, and Will Eaton and wife Michelle; and his sister, Jane "Cappy" Stewart, of Davis, CA.

He was a member of the USNA Alumni Association, of the VP21 and VP 45 Squadron Associations, and, for over 40 years, of Old Donation Episcopal Church in Virginia Beach, VA.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, January 28, 2011, at Old Donation Episcopal Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel is in charge of arrangements. The family requests that memorial donations be made either to Old Donation Episcopal Church, 4449 N Witchduck Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23455, or to the Naval Academy Alumni Association and Foundation, 247 King George St., Annapolis MD 21402.
