He was born to the late Charles I. “Chick” and Mary Ann (nee Taylor) Conner on January 28, 1953 in Chester, Illinois
He had worked at Sabreliner in Perryville, Missouri and M.C.A. in Pinckneyville, Illinois, and Nooter Corporation in St. Louis, Missouri.
He enjoyed astronomy and playing chess. In 1971, Gary Ben was selected for an honors group in a nation-wide talent search in science sponsored by Westinghouse. Gary was on of three hundred students chosen in the United Sates and the only one in Southern Illinois.
