Rev. Mark P. Tomlin of Landisburg, PA, formerly of Zarephath, NJ (Somerset), died Sunday, September 23, 2018, at West Shore UPMC Hospital. He was born August 5, 1932 in Denver, Colorado to Wesley O. and Viola F. (Nichols) Tomlin.
Rev. Tomlin was educated in Pillar of Fire Church schools, graduating with concurrent Bachelor of Arts in history and religion and a seminary degree. He was a man of many talents and abilities, which he used in ministry throughout his life – singing and playing the trumpet and violin, teaching, preaching, and pastoring. He was involved in many and various aspects of church leadership and Christian radio broadcasting, as well as in writing, editing, managing, and publishing Christian media.
His passion was serving Christ and others, and he lived life with great enthusiasm for ministry and learning. Rev. Tomlin enjoyed good conversation, reading, gardening, and was an avid birder with extensive knowledge of bird calls and species identification.
Surviving are his wife of nearly 60 years, Cornelia; his daughter, Claudia Sheaffer and husband (Nate), and one granddaughter, Heather, all of Landisburg; a sister, Beatrice Derbyshire of Los Angeles, California; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and devoted friends.
He was preceded in death by three siblings: older brothers Luther and George Tomlin, and younger sister Florence Gross.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on September 29 at the Church of the Living Christ, Loysville, PA, with Pastor Doran Wray officiating. A graveside service and burial will take place October 17 at Zarephath, NJ.
