Obituary for Jane Johnston
Jane Johnston, 93, passed away Saturday, Oct. 6, 2018 at Masonville Place in Coldwater where she had made her home for the past three years. She moved to Coldwater from her longtime home in South Bend, Ind. to be closer to her niece and caretaker, Sharon Curtis.
Mrs. Johnston was born Dec. 16, 1924 in South Bend, Ind., the daughter of Peter and Olga (Seifert) Newman. She married Delbert Johnston on Dec. 4, 1948. He proceeded her in death on Feb. 19, 2012. She and her husband enjoyed bowling at the South Bend Elks Club and playing Euchre with friends. Jane loved to read the South Bend Tribune, follow Notre Dame football, the Chicago Cubs and the challenge of word search puzzles.
She is survived by her niece and caretakers, Sharon Curtis and Kirk Yearling, Coldwater; a sister and brother in law, Patricia (Walt) Gaedtke, St. Charles, Ill.; a nephew, Richard Piatt, Angola, In. and several other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald Newman and Bill Newman; and five sisters, Mary Ann Piatt, Florence Corle, Alice Allen, Gertrude Newman and Betty Weishaar.
As per her wishes cremation has taken place. Burial will be at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park Cemetery in Mishawaka, Ind. Arrangements were by Lighthouse Funeral Home and Cremation in Union City.
