Sharon Leigh Ludwig of Longmont, Colorado, formerly of Muncie, Indiana, died Wednesday, September 20, 2006 at her home following a courageous battle with cancer. She was 67 years old.Sharon was born December 19, 1938 in Decatur, Illinois to Frank E. and Clara T. (Orton) Clements.

After graduating from St. Theresa High School in 1956 and from Millikin University in 1962, she went on to earn a Master's degree in 1964 from Ball State University.On June 26, 1965, Sharon married Hubert J. Ludwig in Decatur, Illinois. The couple made their home in several Midwestern states before moving to Longmont in 2000. Mrs. Ludwig's work in education included teaching positions at Ursuline Academy in Springfield, Illinois, Bishop DuBourg High School and St. Gabriel Parish School in St. Louis, Missouri, and St. Mary Parish School in Anderson, Indiana. After 25 years as an educator, she continued her love of books and knowledge as a clerk at Borders in Longmont. Sharon had served on a number of community boards including the Ball State Newman Foundation, Friends of the Muncie Public Library, and Friends of the Longmont Public Library. She was also secretary/treasurer of the Grandview Heights II Homeowners Association Board and was involved with the Neighborhood Governments of Longmont Association.

She enjoyed tending to her flower gardens, knitting, quilting, reading and writing. She also loved to hike, snowshoe and cross-country ski in the Colorado outdoors. She especially loved hiking with her husband and doing almost anything with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Hubert J. Ludwig of Longmont; a son, Jonathan Z. Ludwig of Houston, Texas; a daughter, Jennifer M. Schauble and her husband, Patrick, of Gulph Mills, Pennsylvania; two granddaughters, Jacqueline and Katherine Schauble of Gulph Mills, Pennsylvania; a brother, David H. Clements and his wife, Nancy, of Wilson, North Carolina; two sisters-in-law, Margaret Ludwig and Mary Ann Hunt of Springfield, Illinois; and a special lifelong friend, Sally Dobrunz of Kirkwood, Missouri. Further surviving are several nieces and nephews in South Dakota, Colorado, Illinois, Missouri, North Carolina and California.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, and by a sister Suzanne Agaiki.

Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Howe Mortuary and Cremation Services, Longmont. Family will greet friends beginning at 12 noon on Sunday, September 24, 2006 at Howe Mortuary. A memorial service will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Chaplain T. R. Sheforgen of HospiceCare of Boulder and Broomfield Counties officiating. Memorials may be made to the Sharon Ludwig Memorial Fund, c/o Howe Mortuary, 439 Coffman St., Longmont, CO 80501. Funds will be used to plant trees in Sharon's memory and also for the continued work of HospiceCare.
