Fifty years ago, David bought his first sailboat, which was a Sunfish and was officially hooked on sailing. In due time, he joined the Carolina Sailing Club and developed a deep love for racing Flying Scots.
In retirement, David continued sailing and devoted his time and knowledge of sailing with others. He not only contributed his vast knowledge and endless enthusiasm of sailing to the Carolina Sailing Club, he also wrote articles for sailing publications and created videos on sailing tactics.
He was affectionately known as Sailor Dave to his sailing friends. In every circumstance, there were some small or large moments for teaching, coaching, mentorship or encouragement that he offered. Sailing was a great joy in his life and he cherished those friendships he found along the way.
