He was born in Daviess Co., Ky. to the late Edward C. & Ella Kassinger Akin. He was retired from General Electric Co. after 35 years and was a member of Lewis Lane Baptist Church where he had been a deacon and a member of the choir. He also was a charter member of Bellevue Baptist Church. He had received his degree from the former Bowling Green Business University and Western Ky. University, had once served as an advisor for Junior Achievement, and was a U. S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He also loved golfing with his G. E. retired friends.

He was also preceded in death by his wife, Anna Belle Akin on Sept. 24, 2006 and a brother, Gene Akin in 1985.

Surviving are two sons, Alan Akin and wife Karen of Clarksville, In. and John Akin and wife Elisabeth of Georgetown, Ky., two daughters, Nancy Lanham and husband Dan of Owensboro and Mary Lynne Colvin of Springfield, Tn., five grandchildren, Ashley Colvin, Alicia Akin, and Claire, Wesley, and Logan Lanham, and two sisters, Jan Taylor of Owensboro and Betty Hagus of Buda, Tx.
