On April 2, 2017, Charles Perfecto Hernandez, 72, died peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family. Chuck fought a courageous battle with Aortic Aneurysm disease.
Chuck began his life journey on November 2, 1945. Born in MInatare, Scottsbluff County, Nebraska, he was the middle child of Perfecto and Rebecca Hernandez’ six children.
At the age of 7- 8, he started boxing in exhibition fights at Terry’s Arena in Terrytown, Nebraska. On April 24, 1973, Chuck married Janis L. Lawter and had forty-three wonderful years together. He was a loving father to Charles Spencer, Christopher Ryan, and Michael Alan Hernandez.
Chuck quit boxing in 1977 after his last professional fight in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He prioritized his quality of life for family, a good job and health.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Perfecto and Rebecca Hernandez; and two older siblings, Ferdinand and Arthur Hernandez.
Charles is survived by his wife, Janis; three sons, and ten grandchildren. He is also survived by three siblings, Lydia Sullivan, Dale Hernandez and Valerie O’Brien, Cheyenne, Wyoming, and numerous cousins.
Chuck will be loved and missed by his surviving wife, Janis and sons.
At Chuck’s request, no services will be held.
