A Service of Committal will be held 1:30PM Sunday, December 7, 2014, from the Columbarium of Providence United Methodist Church. A service in celebration of the life of Nancy Goodson will follow the committal service at 2PM in Wolfe Hall.
Mrs. Goodson was born July 22, 1927 in Shelby, NC, one of two daughters, of the late Amelia Hamilton Blanton and Frank Yates Blanton. She was a graduate of Western Carolina University and received a Masters of Education Degree from George Peabody College. As one of the initial teachers, she helped develop the Physical Education Program in the Charlotte School System then served as the "PE" teacher for elementary schools throughout Mecklenburg County. She retired in 1985 having belonged to the faculty of Matthews Elementary School in what she described as "the best years of my life".
Mrs. Goodson is survived by her son, William Wilson Goodson, Jr. of Charlotte, NC; daughter, Frankie Jo Goodson Tiedeman and her husband C. John Tiedeman, Jr. of New York, NY; grand-daughters, AJ Tiedeman and Laura Joy Tiedeman; sister, Betty Jo Maddox of Winder, GA; nephew, Christopher Blanton Maddox of Winder, GA; and his children, Samantha, Morgan and Zachary Maddox. Mrs. Goodson was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-two years, William Wilson Goodson, Sr.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bill and Nancy Goodson Scholarship Fund, c/o WCU Foundation, Western Carolina University, 201 HF Robinson Building, Cullowhee, NC 28723.
