Lena Pearl Cook
September 2, 1931 - October 3, 2018

Lena Pearl (Hill) Cook, 87, died October 3, 2018 in Amarillo, TX.

Services will be Saturday, October 6, 2018 at 2:00 PM in the First Baptist Church, Shamrock, with Rev. Mike Martin, of Amarillo, officiating. Burial will follow in Shamrock Cemetery in Shamrock.

Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors of Shamrock.

Lena was born September 2, 1931 in Shamrock, Texas. Her parents were Ranious Hill and Mella Mitchell Hill. She lived most of her life in Shamrock. She married W. D. Cook on July 18, 1948 in Shamrock.

She worked hard all of her life and enjoyed that life to the fullest. She was a wonderful cook and she used that talent to serve her church and community. She was most often found working in the kitchen at the church serving others. Her talent for making and decorating cakes was well known. We would come home from school and see roses made of icing all over the kitchen counters or smell chocolate and would immediately know that she was making a wedding or birthday cake for someone! I was blessed that mom made my wedding cake! The German Chocolate was often requested as a birthday cake or what she would bring to any occasion.

She enjoyed serving as a pink lady at the hospital, traveling with their Sam’s Travel Club, and gardening. She enjoyed telling about and showing pictures of the adventures they had as they traveled around the states. Mom was most proud of the time when she received “Yard of the Month” recognition. She was also a loving, caring, compassionate foster parent to many children. No matter what time of day or night, she would always welcome each child with love, wrapping them in her arms reassuring them everything would be okay.

Lena is survived by her daughter, Joyce Hix and her husband, Darrell from Amarillo; a granddaughter, Nicole Towne and her husband Jim and great grandchildren, Braiden and Micaela Towne from Haslet, Texas; two grandsons, Darren Hix from Pleasant Hill, Missouri and Daniel Hix, from Belton, TX; a sister, June Dressler and her husband, Robert from Allen, TX. She is also survived by loving nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and many other family members.

Lena was preceded in death by her husband, W.D. Cook; a son, Kenneth Cook; mother, Mella Hill; father Ranious Hill; three sisters, Dorothy Glazner, Kay Huckabee, Patricia Hill and one brother, Melvin Hill.

In lieu of flowers donations can be sent to Boys Ranch, P. O. Box 1890, Amarillo, TX, 79174-001

Special thanks to Hillside Haven Care Home and Accolade Hospice for their loving and tender care and support.
