CARL JENNINGS MURPHY
DECEMBER 31, 1929 ~ SEPTEMBER 29, 2018

Graveside services for Carl Jennings Murphy will be conducted on October 4th, 2018 at 1:00 PM at Ft. Gibson National Cemetery with US Army Honors.

Visitation for Carl will be held at Reed-Culver Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 3rd, 2018 beginning at 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Online condolences for his family may be left at www.reedculver.com.

Carl Jennings Murphy was born on Tuesday, December 31st, 1929 in Apache, OK, the son of Pearl Mae Marie Murphy, and raised by his grandparents, William and Alva (Rogers) Murphy.

He enlisted into the US Army at age 17 and was sent to Germany to serve for two years following World War II. He served with the 67th D Battery beginning in 1948 until his honorable discharge in October 19th, 1951.

He met and married the love of his life and his best friend, Donna Rae Seba on April 5th, 1953 in Tribune, KS. Together they raised three sons and one daughter, and shared 65 years of memories and happiness.

Carl was a hard working man who started with the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) as a Maintenance Man and finished his career as a foreman.

When he wasn’t working, you could find Carl playing a game of golf or square dancing with Donna, and belonged to both the Country Cousins and Spurs and Garters dancing clubs. Carl enjoyed time spent at his favorite fishing spot or doing a little hunting.

There was nothing he loved more in life than his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was so proud of his children’s accomplishments and was one of their leaders in 4H. Holidays were always wonderful with all of them gathered close by.

He was proud of his service to his country and was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 7521 in Tribune. When he and Donna retired, he retired near the Cherokee Nation, and settled in Hulbert. Carl was proud of his Cherokee heritage. He loved his community and his many friends were considered family. They always knew the door was open and coffee pot was on. He was always happy to see his grandchildren and great grandchildren, they were the best in his eyes.

The Lord called this hard working man home from his labors on Saturday, September 29th, 2018 in Muskogee, OK with those he loved close by his side. He was 88 years old. He will be greatly missed.

He is preceded in death by his mother, grandparents, two brothers, William Burgner and Charles Heuett, and his sister, Mary Alice Steele, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

His memory lives on in his loving family, wife Donna Rae Murphy of the home and his children, Carl Murphy Jr of Kansas City, KS, Vicki Fair and husband Michael of San Antonio, TX, Dale Murphy and wife Anna of Hulbert, OK, and Jerald Murphy and wife Christine of Garden City, KS.

His memory will be cherished by his six grandchildren, Natasha Oglesby, Jacque Rodriguez and husband Jake, Sonja Murphy and husband Robert Cox, Shane Murphy, Josh Murphy and wife Elizabeth, and Eileen Fair. The great grandchildren include Tucker Oglesby, Alex Rodriguez, Catlin Rodriguez, Gunner Murphy, Avery Murphy, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and loved ones.

REMEMBERING

CARL JENNINGS MURPHY

David Kuttler ~ October 3, 2018
*My first encounter with Carl some 45+ years ago, began with him dousing me with a water hose when he caught me in his yard bent on mischief. He and Donna took pity on me, brought me in their home, and cleaned me up. That night began a new chapter in my life, as I learned what truly wonderful people they were. Of course, I wasn't wise enough to appreciate them right away, but it was a pivotal moment. It led me to probably the best friend I have ever had the good fortune to know, and some of the very best times of my life took place in their home in later years. You've never REALLY had a good time until you've been in a hot game of pitch with Carl as your partner!! I am honored to have known Carl, and I can honestly say I loved him as family. Donna, Jerald, Dale, CJ, and Vivki, thank you for sharing him with the rest of us, you probably already know how much joy he gave our family. RIP Carl, you've earned it!!!
