He was the son of Vernon 'Bud' and Marjory (Howell) Sommer. On Nov 24, 1972, at St. Augustine Church, Minster, he married Kathy 'Kat' Weiskittle, who survives in Minster.
Also surviving are two daughters: Amber Lazier, Minster, and Rebecca 'Becca' (Jay) Cuff, Columbiana; a son, Allan (Erin) Sommer, Columbus; two brothers: Mike (Pam), Vandalia, and Doug Sommer, Celina; and five grandchildren.

Retired from The State of Ohio and the Village of Minster, he was a member of St. Augustine Church, Minster, and Minster F.O.E. #1391. He loved playing softball for the Wagner’s Dutch Mill Team and was a girls youth softball coach. He was the type of man who never knew a stranger, and was the constant bartender. He was always quick to offer a beverage and great conversation. Being one of the hardest working men around, he passed on a great work ethic and pride in what you do to his kids. Family meant the world to him. He loved spending time outdoors fishing and camping with his wife, kids and grandkids.
A Memorial mass will be at St. Augustine Church, Minster, with Rev. Frankline Rayappa officiating. Burial will take place in St. Augustine Cemetery.
