BIBB, Betty White, born on March 5, 1939, passed away in her home in Forest, Virginia, on October 2, 2018. She is survived by her brother, John Zimmerer; her sister, Marion Johnson; and her four daughters, Patricia Bibb Owens, Beverly Bibb Burgess, Kimberly Caroline Bibb and Leslie Louise Bibb. She was the grandmother of four granddaughters, Ashleigh, Whitney, Lauren and Sara; and the great-grandmother to four great-granddaughters, Sophie, Millie, Scarlett and Coco; and, finally, one great-grandson, Riggs. She was married to Bobby O'Neal Bibb, who passed away on March 31, 1977, who, if you knew Betty, was the great love of her life. Writing an obituary about your mother is an odd thing. To look back at her life and try to sum her up in a paragraph is not easy. Our mother was a strong woman. She was raised by her grandparents, Leslie and Willie Allen, then went on to raise her four daughters after her husband was killed at a young age. She was, for the longest time, one of the most determined women we knew. She seemed to never take no for an answer and was strong-willed. She worked at the Small Business Administration in Washington, D.C., and worked on John F. Kennedy's campaign for his presidency. She then moved back home to Nelson County with Bobby and her girls and worked at the Nelson County Courthouse. After Bobby passed away, she opened a very chic women's clothing shop in Lovingston called The Village Boutique, which brought some glamour to our small town. She then ran Mary Sue Terry's political campaign for her bid to become the first female Attorney General for the Commonwealth of Virginia, which was a success. After that campaign, she moved to Richmond to become the Director of Consumer Affairs for the Commonwealth of Virginia. She was beyond successful in this position and made Virginia one of the top states in the country for consumer advocacy rights. She was funny, bright, beautiful and stubborn, but she had a wicked sense of humor and a big heart. She was our mother, our grommy, our friend, our aunt, our sister and she will be missed. There are so many things we are sure we are leaving out about her life, but what we really want the world to know is that she was here, she mattered, she tried to do some good and have a good laugh, and she was loved deeply. We will miss her. Very much. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 6, 2018, at Bethel Church of the Brethren Cemetery in Arrington with Pastor John P. Campbell officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Arrangements by Wells/ Sheffield Funeral Chapel of Lovingston, (434) 263-4097.
