According to the Rich Fountain Parish Book, the Schrader family immigrated to this country in 1845, but spent only 6 months in Texas before returning to their native country. In 1854 they again sailed for America, and the wife, Mary Ann Schrader, died while at Sea. The other family members arrived in St. Louis. After 6 months they moved to Rich Fountain in Osage County. Walter purchased a farm1 1/2 miles east of town and lived there until his death on Dec 5, 1870.

According to Goodspeed's History of Osage County (1889) on page 1159, there were eight children born to the Walter Schrader family with only two known sons as Henry and Francis Schrader.
