Joy was an internationally known artist who specialized in commissioned portraits. Joy was also a teacher and mentor for many during her career.
Joy was a member of the Murray Art Guild, a Kentucky Colonel, and a honorary member of the Australian Portrait Society.
Joy is survived by her husband, Fred of Murray; one daughter, Rain (Phillip) Buchanan of San Diego, CA.; two sons, Warren (Kristen) Thomas of Louisville, and Mason Thomas of Murray; her mother, Kay Henderson of Campbellsville, KY; and five grandchildren, Bella Thomas, Cole Thomas, Roman Thomas, Thomas Rex Buchanan, and Tessa Thomas.
She was preceded in death by her father, David Henderson.
A Community Memorial service will be held at a later date.
