He was the son of William Lackner (1861- bet. 1928 and 1930) and Mary Hahn Lackner (1870-after 1940). His parents lived in Jersey City and then Irvington, NJ. Their graves have not yet been found. He was the grandson of Johann/John Lackner (FAG 104352973) and Christina Speer Lackner (FAG 104353187) of Jersey City and of Philip and Margaret Hahn of Hoboken, NJ. All of his grandparents were German immigrants.
Although he died in Florida, he lived as an adult in Essex County, NJ.
He married Mary Rachel Harris (1893-1984) in 1918 in NYC and had two sons: Arthur W. Lackner, Jr. (1919-2002) and Theodore Lackner (1926-1975). She was born in Perry, Maine and was the daughter of James Harris and Martha Crosby. She is found in Newark in 1915 and was a milliner. She remarried Hyman Meshel (1890-1969) in Florida after she was widowed.
