"At the early age of nine he became a Christian. He received license and was ordained at the age of thirty, in Parsonfield, ME. He preached there two years and then moved to Saco, where he spent the rest of his life. He organized the church in Saco and was pastor three years without salary. He was engaged in business and most heartily co-operated with the church and its pastors in their work. In his Christian life he was loyal, affectionate, and consistent. Of his children was the Rev. E.B. Fernald, [b. 1833]. Rev. E. N. Fernald is his nephew."
