Jerome Gilbert “Jerry” Clark, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma passed away September 30, 2018 at the age of 85.He was born June 28, 1933 in McLoud, Oklahoma to Barbara and Earl Clark. Most of his early education was at Moment High School in Monument, New Mexico where he met and played basketball with J.W. and Barry Lloyd Mashburn. The three of them were very involved in basketball and helped their team win many state high school championships. He graduated high school in Wichita Falls, Texas and went on to the University of Tulsa where he was earning his accounting degree.

After leaving Tulsa, he joined the US Air Force and was stationed at Sheppard AFB in Wichita Falls, TX. Jerry heard his country’s call and proudly served during the Korean Conflict. At Sheppard he taught accounting and then was hand- picked by the General to oversee the accounting offices in Tripoli, Libya. He received an Honorable Discharge for his services rendered to his country.

After working at several accounting firms in Tulsa, he went to work for John McQueen and company. This provided an opportunity for him to partner with George W Underwood in N. W. Arkansas. There he met his future wife, Carol, of 53 years. During his tenure at his N.W. accounting firm, Jerry opened the first H & R Block tax service inside Sears and Roebuck. This set a standard for the future of the H&R Block name. It was also there that Jerry met Sam Walton, who was one of his first clients.

After leaving N. W. Arkansas, Jerry affiliated himself with the main office of Kentucky Fried Chicken in Tulsa. There he was the father of the Forecast System, which helped cut down waste, improve product and increase profits. His next adventure was on to the Pine Ridge Reservation for the Oglala Sioux Indian Tribe. He had the distinctive honor to be the first non-tribal member to be allowed to conduct business as a tribal manager. In this role, Jerry had the opportunity to create many innovative ideas for the tribe that benefited them at the time and in the future. He walked the halls of Congress in Washington DC with Gerald One Feather, the President of the Oglala Lakota Tribe.
Jerry’s career continued to be vast and wide. He catapulted into the oil and gas industry where he was part owner of Harmon Drilling in Blackwell, Oklahoma. He also operated a distributorship of the Wall Street Journal for Lyon News for 10 years in Orange County, California. He also promoted a self-injecting lubricating device while working at Darmax, Inc. A few of the big corporations that he convinced to use this device, were Disney World and Lockheed Martin. Coming home to Oklahoma, he spent his last 17 years before retirement working for News Distributors out of OKC.

His hobbies included OU and Thunder Basketball games, going all over the world on his computer, bowling, golfing, and fishing. He loved watching Wheel of Fortune, America’s got talent and Family Feud and the classics like Gunsmoke. He also loved telling a good story. He and his constant companion, his chocolate poodle COCO, went everywhere together.

However, what made him the happiest was the time he spent with his family. He enjoyed going to Kaw Lake and pulling Carol around while she skied. He taught Darren how to play golf at Early wine and he had ritual of letting Tracy jump off his shoulders and swing her around. He supported Darren in his AAU swimming and never missed an opportunity to watch Tracy dance in competitions and recitals. Friday night was always Family Night. However, after having grandchildren the focus shifted for him and Carol to them. First there was Taylor and later came Payton Clark. He always bragged about how beautiful and proud of them he was. They were the apples of his eye.He would later get a bonus grandson J. Brock Crockett-Beck and he always considered him one of his own. He loved the holidays and special family events. They were highlights for him. He always loved spending quality time with his family in every avenue.

Two of his favorite quotes were “When in doubt, drop back and punt” and “if you put others first, you will always come out ahead”

Jerry was a kind and loving man. He was an innovator and lived a very exciting life. He is going to be greatly missed.

Jerry is survived by his wife Carol Clark, of the home in Oklahoma City; daughter, Tracy Weathers of Oklahoma City; son, Darren Clark and his wife Lenora of Yukon; and three grandchildren, Taylor Clark, Payton Clark, and J. Brock Crockett Beck; 4 sisters, Earline Smiley and husband, Mervyn of OKC, Margaret Lou Branch and husband Clyde of Beckham, Texas, Bobbie Clark Olsen and husband David of Carthage, Texas and Jody McCreary and husband Harold of Lubbock, Texas.
