Funeral services for Joel Monroe Appling, 71, of 3844 Balch Avenue, a retired school bus driver, will be held tomorrow at 9:30 AM in Orr's Colonial Chapel. Appling was killed when he was struck by a car at Ventura Avenue and South Ninth Street Tuesday. A native of Merced, he had lived in the Auberry, Fresno and North Fork areas for 70 years. He was formerly employed by the Sierra Joint Union High School.

He is survived by a son, Alvin of Clovis; two daughters, Annabelle Appling of San Juan Batista, San Benito, County, and Mrs. Evelyn Forti of San Jose; a stepson, Berton Appling of Holtville, Imperial County; two sisters, Mrs. Martha Drury of Fresno and Mrs. Robert N. Blanchard of Hanford, Kings County, and 10 grandchildren. ***** Cremation in the Capel of the Light will follow the funeral services.

[Once married to Tina TURNER Appling. Divorced December 18th, 1926, following a tumultous relationship; her indescretions including infidelity, and charges of assault with intent to commit murder (which were later dismissed).]
