April 24, 2006 Robert Thomas Lawless, of North Syracuse, passed away on his 86 birthday in Dunedin, Florida. He retired in 1985 from Carrol's Corporation as manager of the engineering and construction department. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corpand was an Army veteran of World War II, serving for 39 months in New Guinea, reaching the rank of First Sergeant. He belonged to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3146 and American Legion Post No. 1832 both in Mattydale. Mr. Lawless was a communicant of St. Margaret's Church and a member of the Ancient Order of the Hibernians. A very active third degree member and twice Past Grand Knight of Knights of Columbus Christ the King Council, No 4114, he also was a fourth degree member of Christ the King Assembly and Past Commander of the Color Corps. He was a member of Ironwood Golf Club and enjoyed golf and painting after retirement. Surviving are his wife of 60 years, the former Arlene O'Brien; three children, Michael (Sue) Lawless of Fort Wayne, IN, Mary Carol Lawless of Clearwater, FL and Lauren (Paul) Zumpano of Syracuse; five grandchildren, Sean, Shannon, Michelle, Paul and James; three brothers, Jack (Jayne) of Douglasville, GA, Howard (Elizabeth) of Lockhaven, PA and James (Marcia) of Myrtle Beach, SC; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, four sisters and his parents, Marion and William Lawless. Services will be Monday at 9:30 a.m. at Fergerson Funeral Home, and at 10 a.m. at St. Margaret's Church, Mattydale. Burial will follow in Onondaga Co. Veterans' Memorial Cemetery with military honors. Friends may call Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, 215 South Main Street, North Syracuse.
