Family and friends from far and wide are mourning the passing of Dixie Taylor-Huff, 71, president and CEO of Quality Health Care and Rehabilitation and Cedars Health Care in Lebanon.
Mrs. Taylor-Huff of Castalian Springs died Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at Centennial Medical Center following an extended illness.
Her sphere of influence touched a broad range of individuals from high ranking public officials to blue collar factory workers.
Several Tennessee governors were friends with her and she was a frequent visitor on healthcare issues in Washington.
A native of Trousdale County, her career in healthcare began as a nurse and was elevated to a position of ownership of several healthcare facilities in the region.
Mrs. Taylor-Huff was an early proponent of the Jeanette C. Rudy School of Nursing at Cumberland University and formerly served on the University's board of trust.
"Dixie Taylor-Huff was a dear and long-time friend, a brilliant businesswoman, and a tireless advocate for healthcare," said former Vice-President Al Gore.
"A true civic leader, Dixie is irreplaceable. My heart goes out to Dixie's family and to her many friends throughout Middle Tennessee and beyond."
Former Cumberland University President and 5th District U.S. Congressman Bob Clement said Taylor-Huff was a champion when it comes to quality healthcare.
Dixie Taylor-Huff was one of my best friends. This is a huge loss for all of us, Clement said. He noted that Taylor-Huff was a true public servant who fought and cared for people and whose reach was both national and international.
A leader on a number of political issues related to health care, she was very active in the American Health Care Association, Tennessee Health Care Association, Nashville Womens Political Caucus, and the White House Conference on Aging.
Mrs. Taylor-Huff also served on numerous boards and organizations on the national, state and local level. During her career she received numerous awards for her hard work and dedication to different causes near and dear to her heart. She was a member of the Board of Directors of MainStreet Media, parent company of The Wilson Post, The Gallatin News and The Hendersonville Standard.
She was also a strong supporter of the Middle Tennessee chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Born March 13, 1941 to the late Goldman Seay and Louise Cunningham Gregory, she was a graduate of Trousdale County High School.
The family will receive friends between the hours of 5-9 p.m. Thursday, May 24; 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Friday, May 25 and 11 a.m. until the service at Anthony Funeral Home in Hartsville.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Trousdale County High School Gymnasium conducted by Elder Kevin Harrison and Elder Jeff Blackwell. Interment will follow in the Dixon Springs Cemetery.
