Son of James Monroe Frye and Emeline Winkler. His father gave the land and paid the major expenses for Houk's Chapel Methodist Church. The church cemetery grew into what is now Fairview Cemetery.

Julius Frye was a farmer. He suffered from cancer of the neck but ultimately died of bronchopneumonis.
