Actor, Comedian. The father of actress Teri Garr, he was born in Philadelphia and was a veteran performer in vaudeville, as well as TV and occasional films. He is best remembered as the Master of Ceremonies on the television variety special, "Vanities On Parade" (1951). The variety special featured such personalities as actress Jean Carroll, actor and comedian Jackie Coogan, actor Lyle Talbot, actress Iris Adrian, and several jugglers and talented singers, among many others. He is also remembered for his work on another variety television show, "The Colgate Comedy Hour", from 1950 to 1955. Garr's other work includes the films, "Obey The Law" (1933), "That's My Story!" (1937), "Ladies Of The Chorus" (1948), and the television programs, "It's A Great Life", "Make Room For Daddy", "Suspense", and "Circus Boy." Also a stage actor, he appeared in the plays, "An Old Hollywood Custom", "Strike Me Pink", "Thumbs Up", and once took over the lead role of the Broadway play, "Tobacco Road." He was married to Rockettes dancer and film and television costumer Phyllis Garr, until his death from a heart attack in Burbank, California.
