Karen K. Lange , 74 passed away peacefully Thursday morning, September 27, 2018 at Rapid City Regional Hospice House.

She was born on September 1, 1944 in Plankinton, SD to Robert and Leonor Thayer. Karen grew up around Kimball, SD as a child. She met and married Gary Lange in 1969 and later moved to the Rapid City area. They had three children together, Dawn Matlock, Willard (Rachelle) Lange and Douglas (Hap) Lange. Karen worked at Daisy Dell as a waitress for many years but most of us all remember her days working at Kmart. She worked there for nearly 20 years, she enjoyed working with people and taking her lunch breaks with family and friends. After many years in South Dakota she retired and moved to Yuba City, CA. While living there she dedicated her life to the Lord. Karen was passionate about sharing the word of God. Each of us have so many memories of Karen praying over us and “rebuking the demons.” She dedicated her life to bringing others to the Lord. While living in California she became a part of a program called Babies out of Bondage. This was the beginning of becoming a grandmother to so many around her. She fostered several newborns until the mothers were released from prison, keeping them from being caught in the system. She eventually moved back to Sioux Falls, SD to be closer to her children and grandchildren. Wherever Karen resided, she and her sister Valda were inseparable. They were like two peas in a pod, they were always up to something. I am sure we all have many stories ranging from driving down the wrong side of the road to hitting a pole 3 times before getting their car parked just right. They both spent many years working with Valda’s daughter Patricia Colvin. For last few years Karen has been residing in Hill City where she loved hanging out at the Café visiting with the locals and rolling silverware.

Karen is proceeded in death by her parents, Leanor and Robert Thayer, former husband Gary Lange, her siblings Edwin and Darold Thayer, Viola Powers and Valda Houska. She leaves behind her sister Sharon Fletcher, Joyce Warren, Judy Will and her brother Gary Thayer. Her children Dawn Matlock, Willard (Rachelle) Lange and Douglas (Hap) Lange. Her grandchildren David Swars, Hailee and Heather Matlock, Jerrad Hislop, Breanna, Will and Colton Lange. In addition to several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at the Little White Church at 525 Main St. in Hill City, SD on Sunday, September 30 at 7:00 pm.

Funeral Services will be Monday, October 1, 2018 at 2:00 pm at the Little White Church in Hill City, SD.

Burial will be at the Hill City Cemetery and a celebration of life, luncheon will follow burial at the Little White Church.
