NORTH RICHLAND HILL – Johnny Mack Swanson, 86 and longtime resident of Alexandria, La, passed away Thursday June 28, 2016 in Grapevine, Texas.
Celebration of life will be held later in July in Colleyville, Texas.

Johnny Mack was born on Jan. 7, 1930 in Dodson, La. He graduated from Bolton High School and went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Personnel Management from Louisiana Tech University in 1951.
At the early age of 17 he obtained his temporary private pilot’s certificate. In 1951 he joined the Air Force and served as Staff Sergeant at Lackland Air Force Base during the Korean War. Following his honorable discharge in 1954, Johnny Mack followed in his father’s footsteps in the family business, The American Supply Company. He served most of his career as President over multiple locations including DeRidder, Opelousas, Ruston and Pineville. The American Supply Company was founded in 1945 and became Corburn Supply in 1986.
Johnny Mack became a Master Mason with the Oliver Lodge No. 84, F. & A.M. on Nov. 12, 1959, and achieved over 50 years of service. In addition, he attained the high honor of being a Scottish Rite Mason for 50 years by the El Karubah Shriners. He was a long time member of the Alexandria Lions Club and served as President from 1968-1969.
Johnny Mack loved flying, golf, fishing, hunting and travel. He served on the Board of Directors at the Alexandria Golf and Country Club, enjoyed playing with his friends and shot his age many times the first at 72. He also loved music, the trombone and was part of the Debonnaires during college and beyond, a band that played on campuses and other locations throughout North Louisiana. After retirement, he joined the Red River Horizons Band and also played at First United Methodist Church, Alexandria where he was a longtime member.
Johnny Mack was preceded in death by his parents, John Henry Swanson, and Hettie McCann Swanson; his parents-in-law Banes and Elma Carroll; and his brother-in-law, Robert G. Christensen.
Survivors: He leaves behind to cherish lifelong memories, a loving wife of 62 years, Vannette Carroll Swanson of North Richland Hills, Texas; son, Chris Swanson and wife Julie of Prairieville, La; daughter Tracy Swanson Hassell and husband Joe Ben of Colleyville, Texas; five grandchildren, Kristi Swanson Sandifer, Bryce Swanson and Caroline Swanson all of Prairieville, La., Kyle Hassell and his fiancée, Maggie Johnston and Cole Hassell all of Colleyville, Texas; one great-grandchild, Braydon Sandifer of Prairieville, La.; sister Jolou Christensen of Bedford, Texas; nephew John Christensen and wife Stephanie of North Richland Hills, Texas; niece Kim Christensen of Bedford, Texas; two grand-nephews, Johnathan Pierre and Jordan Pierre of Bedford, Texas; and two adorable puppies, Lexi and Tuffy.
