La Vera was born on September 6, 1923 in Sauk Rapids, Minnesota to Alfred and Hulda (Raiche) Meyer. She married Melvin J. Umerski on March 31, 1943 in Monroe, North Carolina. La Vera worked as a Meat Processor at Gaida and Donavons and also as a Dietary Helper at St. Benedicts Center. She was a member of St. John Cantius Catholic Church and Rosary Sodality.
La Vera enjoyed her flower garden and spending time with her family.
La Vera is survived by her sons, Thomas of Hendersonville, NC, Donald (Susan) of St. Cloud; grandchildren, Thomas, Scott, Jill Matson, Kristi Kranz; six great- grandchildren; sisters, Helen, Paulette, Dorothy, Marlene; brothers, Richard, Robert, William; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Melvin in 1998; three sisters, and five brothers.
