George Edward Morton, Sr., age 77, of Bristol, TN, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was born on July 14, 1941 in Sullivan County, Tennessee, a son of the late Allen MR and Katherine Smith Morton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Bobby Morton.
George was a Senior Mechanic for SmithKline Beecham where he retired with 43 years of service. He attended Liberty Baptist Church and loved to sing and did so throughout Virginia and Tennessee in area nursing homes and churches. He also loved farming, hunting, bowling on church league, playing on the church and industrial softball leagues, and playing his guitar. He loved his family and spending time with them. They were his pride and joy.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Carolyn Morton; one son, George Edward "Eddie" Morton, Jr. and wife Sheila; three grandsons, Justin Trivette and fiancé Caitlyn Jones, Nicholas Edward Morton, and Aaron Jessee Morton and girlfriend Jessica Debord; one great grandson, Bryson Trivette; two sisters, Janice Scott and Peggy Creasong and husband Calvin; two brothers, Allen Morton and wife Julie and Jerry Morton and wife Lisa; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at Oakley-Cook Funeral Home in Bristol, TN. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM. The committal service and entombment will follow in the Heritage Chapel of Memories at Glenwood Cemetery in Bristol, TN.
