Rick Wright, 64, passed away at 11:36 a.m. of lung cancer on Monday, Sept. 24, 2018 at Life's Journey, a hospice facility. He was born on Oct. 4, 1953 to Lawrence Edward and Carolyn Francis (Snyder) Wright.

He was a 1972 graduate of Thorntown High School. He married Penny Michelle Updike on June 30, 1973 at Elizaville Christian Church. They just celebrated 45 years of marriage. Throughout high school, he was employed at Commercial Chicks in Thorntown. After graduation he was employed at Johnson Chevrolet in downtown Indianapolis. He went on to become general manager of Commercial Chicks. He was later self-employed in residential construction. He then went on to be a dedicated employee for 25 years as an Onsite Superintendent with T&W Corporation, in Indianapolis, eventually retiring due to his health.

Rick loved to coach and umpire for Thorntown Little League, build/paint cars in his garage which lead to being head mechanic on a sprint car team, watch Bobby Knight's Hoosier basketball and cheering on Jeff Gordon with NASCAR. His faith was a high priority in his life. He was an elder at Elizaville Christian church until his ill health. He was honored to perform marriages for close family members. He has recently been attending Countryside Fellowship Church.

Rick was preceded in death by his sister, Cynthia (Cindy) Lou Wright Engle; both of his parents and his best friend, Ronnie Holladay.

Survivors include his wife, Penny Wright; daughters, April Dawn (Jason) Burtner and Nicole Janelle Holt; brother, Garry Wright; and sister, Carol Sue Trentledge. Additional family members include Victoria Bailey and James Wells.
Surviving grandsons include Zack Wells, Ethan Franks, Wyatt Holt and Maximus Holt. His surviving granddaughter is Myka Burtner.

Surviving nieces and nephews include Justin Wright (seven children), Jayme Talbot (three children), Krista Hunter (two children) and Brittany Wright (expecting her first); LouAnna Eichrodt (one child) and Levi Engle; Sabrina Kramer (four children), Sean Trentledge, and Mark Trentledge; Charlene (Robert) Myers (two children); Michelle (Jody) Kelley (three children); Eddie Sheets (two children); Michael Updike (two children); Katrina Updike (two children); Kenny Updike (two children); Renee Tyler (one child); Brandi Tyler (one child).

You are invited to a memorial service at Countryside Fellowship Church on Sunday from 2-6 p.m. with a eulogy to begin at 5:30 p.m. Please wear jeans in honor of Rick's wishes.
