Horace Milton Owen | 1928 - 2018 | Obituary
November 22, 1928 - June 19, 2018
Horace Milton (“Doc”) Owen, longtime resident of Heber, Arizona, suffered a stroke on Father’s Day, June 17th, and passed away peacefully in his home on June 19, 2018. Doc is now reunited with Lynnette, his wife of 28 years, who was, no doubt, anxiously awaiting his arrival.
Doc was born in Gladstone, NM on November 22, 1928 to Fletch and Lizzie Owen. He spent his early years in Pueblo and Canyon City, Colorado.
Dear to his heart was his brother, Rayburn ("Bud”), his sisters, Barbara, Lois, and Joyce; his nephews Tom Owen (of Glendale), Allen Owen (of Camp Verde), and Jim Owen (of Houston, Texas), in addition to 4 nieces and 7 additional nephews.
Father’s Day was an appropriate day for Doc to respond to the call from his eternal home, as he was first and foremost a family man. He lived for his more than 100 inherited descendants and family members. Doc is survived by His sister, Barbara, 10 nephews, 4 nieces, 5 children, Rikki (Michael) Strohmeyer, Gary (Debbie) Crandell, Jody (Timaree) Crandell, Lori Crandell, and Dana (Tom) Bradford; 26 grandchildren, and 76 great-grandchildren, (and counting).
Doc and Lynette spent most of their 28 years together in Heber and were a fixture of the community. The name “Doc” is synonymous with generosity. It would be difficult to find anyone who knew him that had not benefited from his kind and giving spirit. He enjoyed social gatherings, particularly family reunions, and days by the lake camping and fishing.
Ever the salesman and entrepreneur, Doc had a career with El Paso Natural Gas and operated and managed many of his own businesses, including the Heber Country Store.
Being a man who preferred informality, Doc requested to have a simple graveside service. His family planned to celebrate his 90th birthday on Thanksgiving Day with a party and reunion, but will now gather to lay him to rest at the Heber Cemetery on Friday, July 6th at 10:00 a.m.
