Colonel, C.S.A. Wade move to St. Louis to make his fortune & became active in the local militia. He was captured at Camp Jackson in 1861 & entered the Missouri State Guard after his parole. After organizing a battery of artillery he was elected its captain. Wade & his battery served with General Sterling Price in numerous engagements, including Pea Ridge, Farmington, Iuka & Corinth. He was promoted to colonel for his accomplishments. He was killed while directing his guns on the fortifications of Grand Gulf, Mississippi. He was struck in the head by a fragment of shot from a Federal gunboat.
