Fred Ward Jr., 95, of Bessemer, AL passed away on Monday, September 24, 2018. Fred was a member and Deacon at 2nd Baptist Church until it closed, then Fred and Chris joined Crossway Baptist Church. He gradated from McAdory High School in 1942. Fred was a WWII Veteran of the US Airforce. Afterward, he attended Birmingham Southern earning a Bachelors Degree, and his Masters from the University of Alabama. He was employed with Jefferson County Board of Education for 32 years as a teacher and principal. Fred is survived by his loving wife of 75 years, Chris Ward; his daughter, Lynda (Chuck) Gordon; his 3 granddaughters, Jamie (Greg), Kate, and Lily; his 2 great grandchildren, Ollie and Grace; his brother, Eugene (Pat) Ward; his sister in law, Ruth Ward and several nieces, nephews and extended loving family and friends. Graveside service will be held on Friday, September 28, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. at Valhalla Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Friday from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. at Bessemer Brown Service Funeral Home. A special "Thank You" to Richard Ward and Vicki Gilmer and to the nursing staff at Skill Care at Galleria Woods. In lieu of flowers, family requests donations be made to your favorite charity.
