E. Darlene Nielsen, 59, passed peacefully into eternal rest on Sunday, September 23, 2018, with her loving family and friends by her side.

Darlene was the daughter of the late Carole Fonda and Albert Crandall.

She previously worked for the New York State Education Department and joyfully joined her husband in retirement in 2011.

Darlene thoroughly enjoyed doing crafts of all kinds as well as pursuing her family’s genealogy. She was particularly proud of volunteering with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, for which she received several recognitions and honors.

Darlene served as past president of the Dutch Settlers Society of Albany and was previously an active member of the Danish Sisterhood, Lodge #78, in Troy, NY. Through her extensive genealogy work she was recently bestowed membership with the Daughters of Union Veterans of the American Civil War. And during the Second Gulf War she co-founded “Operation A Touch of Home” in support of American troops overseas.

Darlene is survived by her loving husband, Larry, a son Bradley (Heather) Nielsen, and her beloved grandchildren, Gianna and Gavin Nielsen. She is also survived by her sister, Tammy, her brother Wayne, as well as nine additional step brothers and sisters, along with very dear aunts and uncles.

A celebration of her life is being planned for family and friends in the near future. Darlene will be interred in the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, NY.
