Hal Garrett of Eagle, ID, was born in Compton, MO, the last of 5 children of Clay and Hila Chambers Garrett. Hal grew up and graduated from high school in Wilder, ID.
He met his future wife (LaRaine) while in high school where he was on the basketball team and she was a cheerleader. They married in 1954. In July of that same year, Hal left for 3 months of basic training in San Diego, CA. After 29 months of active sea duty, Hal was assigned shore duty in San Diego for the remaining 16 months in the Navy. After being discharged, Hal, LaRaine and 8 month old daughter Lori moved to San Jose, CA in order for Hal to attend college. He graduated from SJSU with Honors in 1962. Thereafter, he continued his education earning a K-12 teaching certificate where he worked at San Jose Unified School District (SJSD) teaching biology. Hal went on to earn many credentials and obtained a Masters Degree. Their son Michael (Mike) joined the family in 1961. After many years of working in the SJUSD as an administrator and teacher he retired in 1994. He and his wife lived in Silicon Valley for 40 years and in 1998 he and LaRaine (freshly retired) moved back to the mother country of Idaho to be near extended family.
Hal is survived by his wife LaRaine Trent Garrett, son Mike (Char) Garrett, Eagle, ID; daughter Lori (Justin) Broadbent, Roseville, CA. and his sister Elizabeth of Nampa. He also leaves behind 4 grandchildren Mara (Randall) Plank, Garrett (Callessa) Broadbent, Andrew (Karisa) Broadbent and Trent Garrett. He also had 4 great-grandchildren.
A private memorial service is being held in his honor. No flowers please, they die much too quickly and Hal would have preferred the money going to a living cause, charity for veterans or a children's nonprofit. May our husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather Rest In Peace.
