In 1931, he moved to Fond du Lac and became a foster son of Ann and Joseph Johnson and a sibling to their children. He graduated from Fond du Lac High School in 1945.
On September 2, 1950 he married the love of his life, Lois Ann Sell, and she preceded him in death on January 1, 1991.
Jack worked at the Soo Line Railroad for 40 years. As a child he loved listening to ball games on the radio. He enjoyed reading, listening to all types of music, especially classical and ragtime. Jack was also an enthusiastic cyclist, riding his bicycle back and forth to Green Bay and any other areas of interest. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Fond du Lac. During his time at Grancare Nursing Home, his days were full of socializing, games, bible studies, and lots of reading.
He is survived by two daughters, Carol (Brian) Oestreich and Harriet (Stephen) Racicot; grandchildren, Ruby Oestreich (Will), Trisha Oestreich (Carl), Beau Oestreich, Kara Oestreich (Clark), Brooks Nelson (Jeanine), Hannah Racicot (Beni), Joel Racicot, and Jeanette Racicot; and great grandson, Harris Nelson. He is further survived by a niece, Mary Rose (Al); nephews, Tom Sell and Jerry (Diane) Sell.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lois Ann; brothers, Bill and Richard; brother-in-law, Glen Sell; and sisters-in-law, Catherine Sell and Celeistine Sell.
The family wishes to thank Grancare Nursing Home and Agnesian Healthcare for the loving care you gave our father. Also, thank you to special friend, Jane Kaiser for the special delivery of all the wonderful music cd’s and special times; going out to eat for burgers, fries, and Mountain Dew.
Cremation has taken place and a private graveside service with Pastor Michael Wiegand officiating has taken place in Estabrooks Cemetery.
Per our father’s wishes, memorials may be directed to Faith Lutheran Church in his name.
